Downtown Milwaukee has many under used parking garage roof tops and parking lots that are dying for off peak activity. So, hats off to the Westown Association for acting on their ideas to activate a parking lot this summer on 4th Street and Wisconsin Avenue.

If you've been in Westown recently, you'll likely have noticed that even in these economic times, the Aloft Hotel at 1230 N. Old World 3rd St., at Juneau Avenue, is making progress toward its planned December opening. Other projects, too, like the Park Lafayette condo construction, are also moving ahead.

Kevin Brandt asked me to join him and Banshee Music's Jeff Horrigan in judging the fourth annual Downtown Battle of the Bands hosted by Westown Association at Pere Marquette Park. The event, on Wednesday, July 29 from 5 to 9 p.m., takes place during River Rhythms and is part of Downtown Employee Appreciation Week.
