The flurries are flying and it's hard to picture ourselves with a beer at the Big Gig, but the folks at Milwaukee World Festival are working at fever pitch on Summerfest and so is Roy Henning, who has organized an annual battle of the bands competition that leads to a performance at Summerfest for the past eight years.

Break into the Big Gig, a battle of the bands that took place at the Up and Under Pub on Brady Street in March, April and May, has wrapped up and four lucky winners have now earned Summerfest slots. The performances mean a lot to the bands.

It's that time of year again. Time for local bands to prepare to duke it out for a Summerfest gig. Break Into the Big Gig is actually four battles of the bands that take place at The Up and Under Pub, 1216 E. Brady St.

The first round of finals for the Break into the Big Gig battle of the bands contest are slated for this weekend at The Up and Under and BBC. The Friday Up and Under battle features Up North, The Jake Paul Band and Cadence Finale. On Saturday, the BBC hosts Karma 13, Halfway Jane and Behemoth and Leviathan.
