Ex-pat Milwaukee musician turned record producer Cheryl Pawelski is a good ol' rock and roll aesthete. Sure, she's got a house full of CDs out in L.A., but like the rest of us record geeks, she appreciates the power of the object. That's why she and her fellow Omnivore Recordings co-owners create things like the four 10"s released for Record Store Day this past holiday season. The discs spotlight classic country artists Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Wanda Jackson and George Jones.

Mike Gomoll established The Joseph Gomoll Foundation in honor of his son Joey, who away unexpectedly on March 30, 2010. Joey was afflicted with Dravet's Syndrome, a rare form of epilepsy. Gomoll issued a pair of great CDs to raise funds for the battle against epilepsy and two more follow next month. This time, Omnivore Records, co-founded by Milwaukee ex-pat Cheryl Pawelski, is on board to help spread the word.

The annual Record Store Day is on the horizon, taking place on April 21, 2012. The event seeks to drive traffic to indie record shops, and most labels unveil a series of gems each year to drive customers.

Milwaukee ex-pat Cheryl Pawelski, long a producer of CD reissue projects in the Los Angeles area, has earned her second Grammy nomination for her work on"Woodstock -- 40 Years On: Back To Yasgur's Farm," undertaken while she worked at Rhino Records.
