In the early spring of 1993, the truth was becoming all too apparent: A pandemic was breaking out in Milwaukee, one that would infect approximately 403,000 citizens and lead to at least 69 related deaths within a few weeks. Eventually, the microscopic culprit's name was uncovered - cryptosporidium - and the lessons learned during those weeks in 1993 would be just as important for another potential outbreak more than 20 years later.

The MACC Fund, Midwest Athletes Against Childhood Cancer, Inc., will contribute $1.2 million on Monday to its three beneficiaries, the Medical College of Wisconsin Cancer Center, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center. These research contributions will take the total of the MACC Fund's contributions since its inception in 1976 to over $50 million.

When is a blanket more than just a blanket? When it's a heartfelt gesture, presented during a moment of need. No one knows that better than Tom Tobolski of Milwaukee trio The Colour Bold, which releases its debut EP Jan. 14 via iTunes. All proceeds from the record - all of them - will benefit Project Linus, a non-profit that provides homemade blankets to children suffering with severe illnesses, injuries or cancers.
