Best suburban bar, 2009: Leff's Lucky Town
But, Leff's Lucky Town isn't flashy, fancy or very remarkable. But, the customers in Wauwatosa love it just the same. Located in a historic building that once housed a silent movie theater and a shoe store that fronted a Prohibition speakeasy, Leff's, 7208 W. State St., was a runaway winner for best suburban bar in the OnMilwaukee.com readers' poll.

Colonel Hart's serves a history lesson with libations
History is a natural topic of conversation at Colonel Hart's, 7342 W. State St., because the bar is named for Wauwatosa's first settler -- Charles Hart -- and the walls and tabletops are filled with sports memorabilia from the glory days of the Brewers, Bucks, Badgers, Packers and Marquette. While it was never flashy and hasn't changed a lot in the past 20-plus years, the bar feels as comfortable as a pair of old jeans.

Best bar in the suburbs, 2007: Leff's Lucky Town
In the movie "About Last Night," Demi Moore's character, Debbie, snaps "Stop following me. I don't want to start drinking in the suburbs." OMC readers don't mind imbibing outside the city and Leff's is the preferred spot.

Bratwurst in restaurants: a wunderbar thing!
When you're not feeling like the patio daddy-o (or the girl at the grill), you can still get your bratwurst fix at one of these restaurants.

Bar hopping in Wauwatosa is like a trip through time
Tosa serves as a real-life timeline of 20th century bars: you'll find quaint neighborhood taps on the east side; bigger, more modern sports bars to the west; and even larger, corporately-owned bars on the edge of town.

Reader poll
If you could choose, would you prefer December or March to stay warm and snowless in Milwaukee?
December. I'm not ready for winter yet.
March. By then, I need winter to be over.
There's no use complaining or hoping for better weather in Wisconsin.
Actually, I like snow.
