The kid fades from the picture
Although engaging in the first two-thirds, "The Kid Stays in the Picture" -- a documentary about Hollywood's Robert Evans -- loses its dynamism later, accurately reflecting Evans' career and private life. The presentation is grand and so is Evans' early tough-talking. It's his best picture in years, but, sadly, that's not saying much.

Acidic wit fuels satirical "Pumpkin"
There are countless funny moments in the film and the satire is nearly constant. But there's also a sweet love story and one that preaches the inner beauty of people. However, writers Adam Larson Broder and his co-director Tony R. Abrams (they guys behind 1998's "Dead Man on Campus) don't seem to really want to make a message picture, always undermining the sugary moments.
