Expansion plan opens up space for museum "bursting at the seams"

Two days ago the Milwaukee Art Museum officially announced its Plan for the Future, including an expansion of the 1975 Kahler building, which sits beneath and to the east of the 1957 Eero Saarinen-designed War Memorial Center. Yesterday, MAM director Dan Keegan hosted a media event at which he offered more details on the plan.

The Milwaukee Art Museum continues its Target Free First Thursday program this week on Thursday, Nov. 3 and next month on Thursday, Dec. 1, offering two more chances to see three great Milwaukee Art Museum exhibitions - "Impressionism: Masterworks on Paper," "Taryn Simon: Photographs and Texts" and "Building a Masterpiece: Santiago Calatrava and the Milwaukee Art Museum" - at no cost.


O'Donnell parking reopens July 1

The Milwaukee County Parks Department announced late yesterday that the O'Donnell Park parking structure will re-open on Friday, July 1, echoing what Milwaukee Art Museum director Dan Keegan told me on Monday when I met with him.

That's why went behind the scenes recently at Milwaukee Art Museum and met the people who toil long and hard so that Brew City can have a world-class art museum. This week we met registrar Dawn Gorman Frank and assistant Melissa Hartley-Omholt.
