The NFL and Green Bay Packers announced its 2013 regular season schedule, including games against the Dallas Cowboys, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.
It is still hard to fathom the Packers running the table during the regular season, but seemingly good teams have been wilting in the presence of the defending Super Bowl Champions. As has been said time and time again, the goal is not to finish the season 16-0, the goal is to be hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy on the evening of Feb. 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.
As each week goes on, the possibility of another championship appears closer and closer.
The Packers have a short week to prepare for their Thanksgiving tussle at Detroit Thursday. And while coach Mike McCarthy is maniacal about his routine, this is not uncharted territory. Green Bay is 2-0 under McCarthy on Thanksgiving Day; in part because the Lions were wretched at the time.
However, this is not your father's Detroit Lions. Or your grandfather's. Or even his father's. After all, the Lions have been mostly putrid for more than a half-century. However, under coach Jim Schwartz, Detroit is rolling at a solid 7-3.
I'm going to say this and then duck behind a huge mound of those horrible yellow cheesehead cowboy hats.
I hope the Green Bay Packers lose on Thanksgiving Day to the Detroit Lions or the following week against the New York Giants.
