This weekend, The Pabst Theater Group debuts a performance space both new and extremely familiar: Colectivo Coffee on Prospect. But while the potential of snagging a cup of coffee and a concert at a venue both cozily familiar and relatively unknown has its appeal, the main draw Sunday evening is still definitely the performer: English singer-songwriter Olivia Chaney, whose recent debut, "The Longest River," has earned her raves.

"For lease" signs mask East Side vibrancy

Those who spend a lot of time on the East Side might see all those "For Lease" signs on retail spaces and wonder why more and more are being built: in The Standard on North Avenue, The Overlook in the old Prospect Mall, OaklandNorth on the old Pizza Man site. While those signs abound, there is also clearly a lot happening in the area that surrounds Farwell and North.

Cobalt Glassworks adds more luster to an East Side gem

A while back I had the pleasure of exploring the 1876 cream city brick house at 1363 N. Prospect Ave. Designed by architect James Douglas, for grain broker Gilbert Collins, the house has since been converted to office space, but it retains many of of fabulous details. The other day, Cobalt Glassworks' Jon Schroder sent me some photos of newly restored vintage windows from Collins House.
