Esquire is talking about Milwaukee again. This time it's Milwaukee dining costs. A reader from Milwaukee asked about meal prices and Esquire's Josh Ozersk threw down a great, Milwaukee-laced answer even adding that we have some of "the cheapest fine-dining places in America."

Esquire recently listed its best bars in America, and Milwaukee's own Bryant's Cocktail Lounge landed in the number one spot with a 90 percent rating. Five other Milwaukee establishments also made the list. It is a dynamic rating that could rise and fall based upon reader votes, but when first presented Bryant's was tops. Cheers, Milwaukee.

It's always great to read an outsider's view of our fine city, and again today a national source - this time Esquire - has put Milwaukee on a nice pedestal. We're 2012's "Bar City of the Year."

It was akin to a photo of the Pope with a highball in hand and Sister Mary Centerfold on his lap. In the racially tense year of 1963, nobody wanted Sonny Liston coming down his chimney or even through the front door. But there was one time, at least, when the Santa hat Esquire later put on Liston wasn't as out of place as a crucifix on a hooker's G-string. And it happened in Milwaukee 49 years ago this Dec. 20.
