When you think of gelato you might not think of Germany, but in a city with Teutonic roots like Milwaukee, maybe a gelateria with a German connection is perfect. La Coppa Artisan Gelato, located at Bayshore Town Center, is a partnership between Brookfield's Art Sawall and two Italian brothers - Maurizio and Alfredo Lincetto, who have a small chain of La Coppa gelaterias around the Munich area.

Sweettrio is a Grafton shop specializing in the sweet trio of chocolate, caramel apples and gelato. Although most of its business is corporate gift packages and Internet shipping, owners Christine Steeno and Nedra Clague also provide a fun, family-friendly store in which to shop.

Since 1984, July has been National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month - today! - has been National Ice Cream Day. Did you know that nearly 10 percent of all milk produced in the U.S. becomes ice cream? And 63 percent of that is consumed in Milwaukee? OK, I made that last stat up, but we sure do love our frozen dairy.

In 1946, three brothers opened an Italian grocery business on Brady Street called Glorioso Brothers. It remained in the same space until last December, when the business moved across the street to 1020 E. Brady St.
