Due date close for my probably foolish promise

It was 188 days ago that I made "The Promise" that may well turn out to destroy my self-image, mourn a milestone, make me afraid to ever show my face in public again. Or it may well be "The Promise" that fulfills my dream, celebrates a milestone, gives a little bit of pleasure to a lot of people, provides a few laughs and a chance for cocktails, and turns out a lot better than I thought.

School Of Rock will open Saturday, Oct. 12 at 4050 N. Oakland Ave. in Shorewood. The franchise, owned by "Rock" Marasco will provide lessons for young people ages 8-18 and the opportunity to perform concerts in public.

Petty performance predictably solid

Fans know what they are signing up for when they attend a Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers concert. The show is not full of surprises. It is filled with radio hits, hand clapping, lighter waving, guitar solos and committed, heartfelt, energetic musicianship. The latter is, for the most part, why tonight's show at Summerfest's Marcus Amphitheater was sold out.
