Despite the fact that we had Dan Ball - a member of the legendary Velvet Whip - write about the new Avant Garde Coffee House show at UWM's Inova Gallery in the Kenilworth Building, 2155 N. Prospect Ave., I stopped in last week to get a tour from organizer John Stropes.

The eighth annual Nohl Fellowship Exhibition will open Friday, Sept. 30 at UWM's Institute of Visual Arts to showcase an exhibition of work by the artists who received the Greater Milwaukee Foundation's Mary L. Nohl Fund Fellowships for Individual Artists in 2010.

It was early summer and Andrea Avery was trapped in bed following massive leg surgery. Too drugged to read without getting nauseous Avery, the workaholic manager of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Union Art Gallery who usually spent her summers traveling the globe, now had a walker.

It's no secret millions are upset with and untrusting of our economy and it'll be interesting to see what kind of affect that sentiment will have come this Friday, the post-Thanksgiving, day-long shopping bonanza known as Black Friday. But forget Friday; Art Vs. Craft is on Saturday, Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
