Three desperate everyday guys pushed so far to the edge that committing a crime is the only option? OK, that works, or at least that's relatable on a darkly comic level. Three desperate everyday guys pushed so far to the edge that committing a crime is the only option ... again? Well, now we're moving into sociopathic territory, not exactly the best place for a comedy sequel, like "Horrible Bosses 2," to roost.

If you were spitballing names for the ideal cast for a new grown-up dramedy, you might dream up something closely resembling the roll call for "This Is Where I Leave You." It's an impressive gathering of talented, charismatic performers. Unfortunately, they've been assembled for a less than impressive movie, a trite and tonally bipolar dramedy that doesn't deserve the embarrassment of charming, comedic riches at its disposal.

"Identity Thief" is ugly because of the way it treats its characters, its cast and, by the film's end, its audience. When it's not ugly, it's frustrating, and when it's not frustrating, it's merely dull. The new comedy is a lot of things; funny is unfortunately not one of them.

"Up in the Air" is well worth the trip

I'd heard little to nothing about "Up in the Air" before I saw it, but I must say that I enjoyed it immensely. It's charming, touching and oddly upbeat.
