Listen carefully and you may hear a star forming on National Avenue. At least, that's what Joe Puerta, owner of The Exchange Recording Complex in Milwaukee, is hoping. The Exchange Recording Complex, an unremarkable brown-and-orange building with no signs and nothing to set it apart from the other buildings on its block, has been a working recording studio since the '70s, hosting both regional names and international stars.

Local musician Tyler Traband has been a mainstay on the scene for years. And given that music is his full-time, bills-paying gig, it's little surprise that when he releases a disc he considers no-frills, it's still slicker and better produced than most of what is released locally.
