Steve Mackay is a Michigan tenor saxophonist and member of Iggy and The Stooges. On his most current jazz release, Northbeach Jazz, MacKay turns to his early influences, such as Stan Getz, and John Coltrane. "North Beach Jazz" is a vinyl-only release on After Music Records. Mackay performs at The Jazz Gallery, 926 E. Center St., on Sept. 19. He plays a gig at Phat Heads in Green Bay the night before.

Few bands in Milwaukee have earned the kind of reputation for searing live performances that The Danglers enjoy. So, it seems perfectly natural that the progressive band - which draws on elements of prog rock, metal, jazz and more for its high-voltage style - would issue a live CD.

Milwaukee's near-legendary trio The Danglers celebrates lucky 13 on Valentine's Day weekend with a trio of gigs at Circle A, 932 E. Chambers St., in Riverwest. The band plays at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11-13 and promises a different set list each night.
