Justin Carlisle's new Ardent, Sanford's Justin Aprahamian and Braise's Dave Swanson are semifinalists for the James Beard Award for "Best New Restaurant" in the country. The nominations were announced this morning in Orlando, Fla.

Sanford makes another "best of" list

National men's blog Gear Patrol listed Milwaukee's Sanford as one of its top 25 restaurants in the country this week. The award-winning restaurant is Wisconsin's only inclusion in its list.

If there's any figure on the contemporary dining scene in Milwaukee that needs no introduction it is Sandy D'Amato. D'Amato, who is best known as the founder and former owner of Sanford and Cafe Coquette, has cooked around the world and might almost be single-handedly responsible for the current restaurant boom in the city.
