From the opening salvo of "Bamboo Banga" Maya Arulpragasam's charisma and energy was apparent, even if the roaring thunder of her wide-ranging, encyclopedic and potentially seizure-inducing sound drowned out her voice much of the time.

The OnMilwaukee.com editorial office is cheering at the announcement that Anglo-Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A. will perform at Turner Hall Ballroom on May 12 at 8 p.m., with special guest Holy F*ck.
