The Milwaukee Preservation Alliance is currently conducting a survey regarding the construction of a new, multi-purpose arena that would house the Milwaukee Bucks. According to the MPA, the survey will help the group "develop a strategy that is aligned with our mission and the interests of our membership." The survey closes at midnight on Thursday, Dec. 18.

I support the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in its battle to keep the old Milwaukee Arena (now the UWM Panther Arena) from meeting the wrecking ball in order to build a new Downtown arena. One, I love the building's history. Two, there is a better spot for a new arena.

Today, board members and staff of the Wisconsin Center District (WCD) - which owns and operates the Milwaukee Arena (formerly the U.S. Cellular Arena), Wisconsin Center and Milwaukee Theatre - announced a new, official sponsor and partner for the Milwaukee Arena: UWM.

The way we see the world is all a matter of perspective, of point of view. Take, for example, the Milwaukee Theatre. Whenever I go inside, I rue the loss of the Auditorium's arcaded interior. On a recent tour of the both the Milwaukee Theatre and the adjacent Arena -- which I may always call the Auditorium and MECCA Arena (sorry, I can't stop myself) -- I was surprised to see how much of the auditorium remains in place.

2013 was another one of those great years. It was filled with events, stand-out people, cool new spaces and much more. Jeff Sherman's blocked out the "bad," and remembers the good with this edition of his annual year in review.
