We've had a few cream puffs this week at State Fair, but that hasn't diminished our desire to tell you about cool stuff that caught our eye. We start with some good seats at the ol' ballpark and follow up with notes about a Michael Jackson book, a decadent East Side dish, a fun backyard toy, a great loaf of local bread and a cool place to find cheap (and sometimes reliable) merchandise.

Wonder salutes Jackson at Amphitheater gig
It was no surprise that four days after the world learned of the death of Michael Jackson, that news was fresh in the mind of Stevie Wonder, who headlined the Marcus Amphitheater on the first Sunday of Summerfest 2009. Facing Father Issues
Tuesday November 10th, 2009 - Gurnee, IL   Today was very significant on several levels. First, it would have been my father’s 72nd birthday. I’ll never forget this date as long as I live for exactly that reason, but the anger I had for whatever reasons I had it is fading qu...

Universal Access Has Ruined the Internet
I've been "online" since 1993, when 9,600bps was fast and a 17" CRT was considered the big time.  The idea of a text-driven BBS being hip was vanquisted forever with the advent of Mosaic, the first real web browser.  It changed the business world as much as any invention ...

A New Mission Statement
Friday July 3rd, 2009 - Lake Villa, IL   Lots of good energy all around today. I finally feel like I’m starting to get a master plan of some sort together and I spent most of the day working on starting to execute it. Action is everything and ideas alone are nothing without it. I ...
