In most cases, music comes in the form of quick click and a download bar. Album art has become a lost art, and elements like liner notes, which used to provide a connection between the artists, the listeners and their inspirations, have mostly gone the way of the 8-track player. Gian Pogliano, guitarist for the Bay View "surf-dance-punk" band The Jones Island Flood, is hoping he may have found the ideal solution: a concept he calls the deluxe download.

Though Milwaukee is a long way from being dubbed a hotspot of rock and roll gear innovation, there are a few businesses here creating great equipment for musicians near and far. One of them is Oak Creek-based Rat Rod Drums. Another is the considerably more veteran ACEffects, a one-man show that's been cranking out stomp boxes locally since 1986.

Late last year, Milwaukee's premier purveyors of guitar-fueled pop, Sugar Stems, released a new disc, "Can't Wait." Like the quartet's debut, "Sweet Sounds of The Sugar Stems," "Can't Wait" is laced with catchy songs like the first single, "Like I Do," built around around an "I Can't Explain"-style chord progression, with a verse that recalls the earliest records by The Go-Go's. We caught up with Betsy Heibler to ask about "Can't Wait," the band's recent tour and more.
