My role as cartographer, or map maker, for Doors Open is to help provide an easy-to-read map that guides you to any and all of the sites and tours that will be open on Sept. 19-20. Beyond the scope of providing directions to sites with the maps, I get to observe how Doors Open Milwaukee becomes a more inclusive way to get to know the City of Milwaukee and its nearby suburbs.

In recent years, Milwaukee Public Library has been building for the future, replacing aged branches with mixed-use developments that ensure the libraries will be community fixtures for years to come. For its next project, MPL is moving the Forest Home branch into the future by reviving an old South Side neighborhood gem.

Although primarily a sports bar and restaurant, Park 6 has established itself as a neighborhood go-to for celebrations from birthdays to anniversaries. Tara Cavazos, with the help of her family, owns and operates the Mitchell Street establishment.
