False internet identities are in the news again, this time surrounding Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o. This week Milwaukee's own internet hoaxer Montaous Walton plead guilty to theft by false representation after using his fictional internet persona to get legitimate baseball agents to give him money.

Over the last five years, a Milwaukee man named Montaous Walton has created at least two different internet personas, inventing a story about an improbable rise out of the city into the world of Major League-affiliated baseball. One of these personas was exposed in 2010. The other has led to his arrest.

Over the last five years, a Milwaukee man named Montaous Walton has created at least two different internet personas, inventing a story about an improbable rise out of the city into the world of Major League-affiliated baseball. One of these personas was exposed in 2010. The other managed to not only thrive, but convince legitimate sports agencies to invest in it.
