In 2010, Ashley Kumlien, the 28-year-old founder of MS Run the US ran across the country, 3,200 miles in six months, to raise money for research to cure multiple sclerosis. She succeeded in completing the journey, but raised roughly 10 percent of the $500,000 she had sought to generate. Now, Kumlien has a new plan.

This Thursday we will host "Athletes Get NEWD for MS" at MOCT, 240 E. Pittsburgh Ave. It's a fashion show that will feature casual wear from the NEWD line and Live the Dream, as well as running clothes from local athletic outfitters. The event runs from 5 to 10 p.m. and is free, but donations are accepted and encouraged.

So, what did you do this summer? Brookfield native Ashley Kumlien will have an amazing story to tell when she completes her cross country run late next month in New York City. Kumlien, 26, has been running across the country since April in an effort to raise money for multiple sclerosis research.

Trenni Kusnierek and Ashley Kumlien will both be running on April 19. But even through they will be striding in different events and in different states, they'll be doing so with a common purpose.
