Thanks to a dedicated PTO and a supportive school district, this week Wisconsin Hills Middle School is putting on its first full-scale Broadway musical since 2010.

The Batterman Ensemble of the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music's Jazz Institute has been selected as a finalist to compete in the Charles Mingus High School Jazz Competition in New York City. A concert will be held to help raise funds for the trip.

If you learned to play in instrument in school, you already know the value of music education. But with budget cuts looming across Wisconsin, it's not impossible to envision a time when schools no longer teach children how to play. In Phoenix, Ear Candy is an organization that gets instruments in kids' hands and music in their souls. If successful there, Milwaukee is on its list for expansion.
