No dough, no show: Why you shouldn't take a gig just for exposure

When trained musicians play solely for exposure - except in the case of charitable and/or non-profit events - it devalues the work. Moreover, it means fewer paying gigs for musicians. Ultimately, it helps create a "talent drain" - sending top tier artists to other communities where the pay and prospects are better.

I don't know what to make of Billie Joe Armstrong's latest meltdown. Is it just another rock n' roll moment, par for the course at a concert like this? The tantrum of a spoiled artist? Is a talented musician entitled or even expected to act like this? And if he didn't, what would we all talk about?

Here is a list of 100 great bands and musicians who have created Milwaukee's musical landscape and -- in many cases -- helped the world at large appreciate the cream of the Cream City crop.
