To say this play is disturbing and powerful is like saying Ryan Braun can hit a baseball. Nothing quite captures the depth and breadth of this story. And though the cast consists of a dozen or more actors, make no mistake: it is a one-man show.

Once you drag yourself to the end of this play you begin to realize that the only reason anybody either breaks up or gets together is sex. Most of it is pretty straight old-fashioned sex, but with an occasional kink thrown in. And most of us who are over 18 have probably come to the realization that a real relationship is much, much more than that.

The story of relationships and the search for morality in them is as old as time, but it makes for fertile investigation in "Closer" the popular play by Patrick Marber that opens this week at Off The Wall Theatre.

"Gigi," the marvelous movie musical by Lerner and Loewe that opened this weekend at the tiny Off The Wall Theatre, is a three-person show, even though there are plenty of other characters. Unfortunately for Off The Wall, the three main characters are all found wanting, and it makes for an uncomfortable evening of theater.

It's almost impossible to sit through the two hours of "Trainspotting" without scratching your arms to get rid of the dirty rash that you are sure must be growing on you. Having said that, it should be noted that there is a real play here, full of despair, love, joy and sorrow and a glimpse at a world none of wants to visit, much less actually spend any time in.
