Wainwright III, Thompson join forces for the good
Over the course of two sets Friday night at The Pabst Theater, Loudon Wainwright III and Richard Thompson laid out a sprawling evening of songwriting prowess, musicianship and humorous asides. At the end of each man's solo set he was joined by the other. "I needed to remind Rich we were in the Midwest. Here is one by a Midwesterner," Wainwright said by way of introducing Bob Dylan's "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere," the duo's second and final encore of the evening.

Wisconsin native's book celebrates historic theaters

The Renaissance of Wisconsin Opera Houses," a lavishly illustrated book by Brian Leahy Doyle and photographer Mark Fay.

Gig roundup: Mulvey ups the ante for third annual bike tour
Last year when singer-songwriter Peter Mulvey did his bike.concert tour of Wisconsin, he blogged about it almost daily for OnMilwaukee.com. This year, he expanded his route and brought a filmmaker along for the third annual tour. Mulvey returns to Milwaukee for a gig this week at The Pabst.

Gig roundup: Lov finds inspiration in difficult youth
"Simple and sad with a shot of scotch." The only problem with singer / songwriter Sara Lov's own description of her debut solo disc, "Seasoned Eyes Were Beaming," is that is suggests more grit than there is to be found on this softspoken 10-song disc. Lov plays at The Mad Planet this week.
