Since 1981, when Historic Walker's Point, Inc., held its Loft Spaces and Historic Traces, the annual Spaces & Traces tour has opened the doors of Milwaukee homes and historic spaces to the public. The 32nd installment of the event, held Saturday, May 18, features Shorewood.

By now I've seen Milwaukee from the top of the Allen-Bradley clocktower, the 41st floor of the U.S. Bank Building, the lantern atop the dome at St. Josaphat Basilica and even from a twin-engine plane I piloted over Downtown. I've even viewed City Hall tower from the roof of The Pabst Theater. But I've got to say, it's much more exhilarating to look down on Milwaukee from atop Henry Koch's most famous hometown creation.

We're "Brew City" because of beer, that's a given. But "Cream City?" There are plenty of references like the Cream City Cycle Club. And the cream in question is not whipped and served inside a pastry at the State Fair, but rather in solid, brick form.
