We've asked each of the seven candidates running for four seats on the Milwaukee School Board to respond to a list of questions and we will run them in the weeks leading up to the April 2 election. Today, we hear from Tatiana Joseph, who is running against Jaime Alvarado and Angel Sanchez for the seat representing District 6, currently held by Peter Blewett.

Last night on Vliet Street, Milwaukee Public Schools superintendent Gregory Thornton and the Board of School Directors sketched out what Thornton called a "worst case scenario" for next year's school budget. On top of the already-projected loss of $13 million in state funding -- and tens of millions of dollars in federal funds -- for fiscal year 2012 the governor's proposed budget would, according to the scenario presented on Thursday, slash another $74 million from Milwaukee's public school system.

The practice of parents allowing their children to tip back a few in their presence could be finished as the state legislative assault on drinking continues in the form of Senate Bill 30. The bill would ban parents from letting their kids drink until they are 18. There currently is no such prohibition.
