Last week, Shannon Knapp received approval from the Board of Zoning Appeals (BOZA) and will open Up, Up and Play this summer at 2535 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. - above the Down & Under Pub.

If you've lived or spent any time on Milwaukee's East Side, then you likely know that Maryland Avenue Montessori School -- an MPS school -- has a sprawling, 3.5-acre sea of rupturing concrete for a school yard. A plan to green that space would bring many benefits.

It's certainly not a secret if you live in the neighborhood, but I recently discovered Hawthorn Glen, a 25-acre park and nature center run by Milwaukee Public Schools and tucked away north of State Street in the shadow of the big water tower that also overlooks Hawley Road.
