About a month ago a friend asked me to come down and visit her in Austin for South by Southwest. At first I thought she was crazy, but decided it was a brilliant idea. Of course, being so close to the actual event, I couldn't find tickets for less than $700.

This didn't go exactly as planned. Yes, I'm speeding through the Arizona desert in a humungous white Chevy Suburban, while my friend from college, Paul, handles the driving for now. If we don't encounter any setbacks, we should arrive at Maryvale Baseball Park just in time for first pitch.

To some, it might be hard to justify driving 400 miles in 24 hours, to take a one-day road trip to a sleepy Up North town in the dead of winter. To me, it's just what I needed, and after my quick trip to our very modest (read: cheap) cabin in the Town of Wausaukee, an hour due north of Green Bay, I'm ready to do it again tomorrow.

For every reoccurring road trip in my life, I tend to play a certain soundtrack. It's because I'm a creature of habit, of course, but the cool part is that whenever I hear one of the songs somewhere else, my mind wanders to its happy place.
