In a takeoff of the old joke, I find myself asking today, "What if they held a Ryder Cup match and nobody in the United States really cared?" Because that's what it feels like after the Americans were once again walloped by the team from Europe on Sunday.

Madison resident Steve Stricker, a 12-time winner on the PGA Tour who is now in semi-retirement, was named as a vice captain for Tom Watson's United States Ryder Cup team. He joins fellow Madison resident Andy North alongside Watson.

The two golf courses that put Wisconsin on the national golfing radar - Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits - are celebrating anniversaries this year. Blackwolf Run, site of the 1998 and 2012 U.S. Women's Open turns 25. Whistling Straits, site of the 2004, 2010 and 2015 PGA Championships and 2020 Ryder Cup, along with the 2007 U.S. Senior Open, turns 15. It's been an amazing ride (so far) for Kohler.
