The Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County (HAWS) invites performers of all ages to take part in their "Sing Our Jingle to Save Lives" video contest. Jennifer Smieja, HAWS' Development Coordinator, encourages everyone to "have fun and be silly," in producing videos to submit.

You've seen the barrels all over town, asking for donations to Hunger Task Force. But what happens to the nearly 10 million pounds of food collected each year? A lot, actually. During OnMilwaukee.com's annual dining month, we took a few moments to see how Milwaukeeans who don't have the ability to enjoy the city's multitude of spectacular restaurants keep food on their tables.

I'm often asked how or why I first got involved in animal welfare. While that is an interesting story and one I may share in the future, I am more interested in explaining why I've stayed and gradually increased my involvement.

We don't often receive Saint Bernards at animal control so she caught my attention a few days later when I noticed her still waiting for her family. I felt bad for her -- she seemed depressed, looked thin, and acted old.
