This latest snow fall made me realize something. I've never called dibs here. I'm not alone. I don't see any Milwaukeeans shoveling out angled parking spots or street parking spots and calling dibs on their handiwork. You know, "dibs." See, this is a real thing that real people do - specifically 90 miles south of us in Chicago. And it's serious business.

The City of Milwaukee Department of Public Works has lifted the snow emergency and the 4-inch rule as of noon on Tuesday, Feb. 3. In addition, DPW has completed its overnight snow operations in the 5-Day Parking Exception Area.

A lot of Wisconsinites complain about the cold and snow, but given the choice, would we move to a warmer climate if we could? There are definitely trade offs - including that many places with higher annual temperatures also have a larger population of bugs. Which would you prefer: snow or bugs?

Can you imagine how social media would've melted down exactly 101 years ago? Nov. 11, 2013 was the end of the "Big Blow," the "Freshwater Fury" or the "White Hurricane," a hurricane-force blizzard that killed more than 250 people and and destroyed 19 ships.
