Last night, I rushed home from work, bought some fresh oil and gas and attempted to start my snowblower for the first time in nine months. I held my breath and gave the cord a pull. Nothing. I tried again, then again, then again. Calmly, I pushed the choke button three times, then paused. One more pull, and it sprang to life.

Giant blizzards are fun, and I found out the hard way a few years ago that sometimes you can't just drive through them. This time around, though, I got up early and spent 90 minutes snowblowing. Too bad it doesn't really matter.

While running errands in a light jacket and raking flower beds this weekend, a thought crossed my mind: could it snow again?

When it snows, I go outside and shovel or snowblow my sidewalk and alley. In the alley behind my house, however, most just wait for the snow to melt. This isn't the way it's supposed to be. The City says it's not its problem -- but why not?

I was feeling sporting this morning. And, after I cleared out my alley, I revved up the engine and attempted to blow through my neighbors' unshoveled section of road. I made it perhaps 20 feet when I got stuck. Very stuck.
