After a long break, The Helio Sequence is back on the road again and headed toward Milwaukee for an 8 p.m. gig on Thursday, Nov. 9 with Ramona Falls. We got a chance to chat with Brandon Summers about the new record, "Negotiations," and the long, soggy road to getting it finished.

After a couple gigs in the venerable old Turner Hall Ballroom, Seattle's The Head & the Heart returned to Milwaukee Sunday for a show under the moonlight.

Nathaniel Rateliff and Fruit Bats both played before dinner time on Day 1 of Summerfest. In about 30 years of Big Gig action, I cannot recall a better way to start the 11-day festival.

When we first chatted with Josiah Johnson, singer and guitarist for The Head and the Heart, the band was about to embark on its first headlining tour. By then the band had already built a fan base in Milwaukee with a gig at Turner Hall. Now, The Head and the Heart returns to perform its melodic, often piano-based pop at Summerfest. You can see the group Sunday, July 1 at 10 p.m. at the Briggs and Stratton Big Backyard.

Summerfest's opening day marks a sort of homecoming for Fruit Bats. Though the group got its start in the Windy City in the late '90s, its frontman and founder Eric Johnson, who has also worked with Califone and The Shins, was born in Kenosha and spent part of his youth there. Fruit Bats play the U.S. Cell Stage at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27.
