Study ranks city, suburban poverty
In 2005, Milwaukee was at 24.9 percent poverty, while its suburbs were at 5.1 percent. It's according to a Brookings Institution study of the nation's 100 largest metropolitan areas released Thursday.

Suburban leaders balk at sales tax plan
Proposals for a regional sales tax boost are getting a thumbs down from suburban leaders. Among them is Waukesha County Executive Daniel Vrakas, who says Milwaukee's best answer to its fiscal problems is not to lobby taxpayers to raise the sales tax but to lobby Madison for diverting some of that revenue.
