If you want it or need it, God knows it's gotta be on Craigslist. I think of it as another way to save money, to consume less, to recycle and reuse. For all of that and a feeling of camaraderie with my fellow penny pincher, the shining star of the 'List is the "Barter" area.

MKE Up Market is a bi-monthly event held at MOCT, 240 E. Pittsburgh Ave., in Walker's Point, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. But this isn't your average street fair. Vendors are handpicked and the selection of goods is curated. You can find everything homeopathic remedies, handcrafted pottery, secondhand clothes, fashion accessories, organic candles and much more.

Thrify Ewe, a resale shop owned by Doug Berna that recently relocated to 907 S. 1st St., falls on the bargain side of the resale coin. Kids' clothing is $1, adult clothing ranges from $2 to $3, shoes are $1-$2.50 and suits and coats are $6. You can even score a tuxedo for $10.

Bay View's Tip-Top Atomic Shop has sold vintage items and retro reproductions for just over a decade. Owner Jim Ducther says it hasn't always been easy, but approaching the business in new ways has made a difference.

While boutiques and entrepreneurs have made Milwaukee's Historic Third Ward the premier shopping destination near Downtown, non-profit Goodwill Industries is ready to also call the neighborhood home. Retique will open in May.
