It was one heck of a weekend for women in sports as the Daytona 500 and UFC had history-making performances by women. But, the fight between Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche pandered to our basest beliefs and was exploitative.

Sequels have a reputation for being awful injustices compared to their originals. Apparently, they should consider the "alternate universe" method used by "Here Comes the Boom," which, despite being the parallel-reality version of "Happy Gilmore," did a pretty good job holding its own.

An ill-advised bill that would ban MMA events in Wisconsin is nothing more than a policy difference, much like the never-ending recall elections. This battle has been fought. There's a lot of stuff for the legislature to be working on but this issue isn't one of them. State Reps. Strachota and Grothmann would be well advised to forget about this absurd piece of legislation and get to work solving some of Wisconsin's real problems.
