Walker's Point Center for the Arts (WPCA) named Ana Melo as its new executive director. Melo, who started on Aug. 10, grew up in the Walker's Point neighborhood. She is a bilingual community leader with a history in the arts, youth programming and nonprofit sustainability.

Photographer, writer and historian Paul Koudounaris says he has always gravitated towards macabre art history. His most recent photography book, "Memento Mori: The Dead Among Us," is proof of this fascination. Koudounaris comes to Milwaukee Friday, May 1 to present a free lecture and slide presentation at the Walker's Point Center for the Arts.

This year marks the fifth anniversary of Milwaukee's Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) parade and celebration, which takes place Saturday, Nov. 1 from noon to 5 p.m. in Walker Square Park. Milwaukee's Celeste Contreras has organized the parade since its inception in 2010 and OnMilwaukee.com recently checked in with Contreras to find out more.

The 20th annual Día de los Muertos show opens this Friday, in conjunction with Gallery Night, at the Walker's Point Center for the Arts, 839 S. 5th St., from 5 to 9 p.m. The exhibit features more than a dozen altars, including one for deceased Milwaukeeans.
