"Regional Report: Milwaukee: Beyond the Rust Belt," a May 30, 2008 story on TheDeal.com, is a very comprehensive look at the business and economic climates in the new Milwaukee.
The story notes, "This is no Detroit, or even Pittsburgh. Many neighborhoods are picturesque and inviting. Its downtown, if not exactly teeming, is blossoming. It's an easy place to maneuver, say residents, comfortable and a good place to raise kids, despite Wisconsin winters."
The article also notes the challenges that Milwaukee and other similar-sized cities face, but author Matt Miller says, "Milwaukee is far from a badly aging artifact" and "surprising to outsiders, the city has emerged as one of the country's premier centers for money management, for high-technology medical devices and for back-office financial services technology."
The Deal.com, according to its "About Us" section, "strives to report, analyze and disseminate business and financial news that offers fresh insights on the deal economy-a set of interrelated activities focused on deal making of all kinds, whose purpose is to generate corporate growth in a continually changing global market."
