The bill would ban parents from letting their kids drink until they are 18. There currently is no such prohibition.

Published: Aug. 19, 2009 - 6:45 p.m. - If I was back in my old newspaper job, I'd have been taking phone calls over the past two days from viewers of the network newscasts on Channels 4, 12 and 58, complaining about how their daily habit was disrupted by live coverage of Brett Favre's first public appearance as a Viking. There are only two big news stories, as far as Milwaukee TV is concerned, the weather and the Green Bay Packers.

Published: Aug. 19, 2009 - 1:36 p.m. - At his first press conference since being released from the hospital Monday after a brutal attack Saturday night, Mayor Tom Barrett appeared with his hand in a cast, stitches on his cheek and was visibly tired. But his message was strong.

Published: Aug. 16, 2009 - 12:07 p.m. - Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is recovering at Froedtert Hospital today after being attacked by a man wielding a metal pipe last night outside the Wisconsin State Fair.
22. South Side coalition seeks to save the Hoan Bridge
Published: Aug. 7, 2009 - 2:29 p.m. - Milwaukee County Supervisors Patricia Jursik, Marina Dimitrijevic and Christopher Larson, along with State Rep. Christine Sinicki, have formed a Coalition to Save the Hoan Bridge. Things are heating up over the Hoan after the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce asked for further studies involving either repairing the bridge for millions or replacing it for millions more.
23. City floats water fee increase
Published: July 24, 2009 - 11:23 a.m. - The city is looking at raising water rates as a way to put more money in its general fund, going beyond the traditional water bills being used to cover the cost of running the Water Works. Water Works and city administration officials are looking to raise rates an additional 6.5 percent for suburban users of Milwaukee water and 5 percent for city residents on top of a 3 percent increase that takes effect soon.

Published: March 13, 2009 - 8:58 p.m. - Milwaukee County Executive Scott Walker said he was caught by surprise this morning by Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's announcement that the federal Omnibus Budget bill includes a provision to spend $91.5 million in long unused federal funds for mass transportation in Milwaukee.
