Summerfest headliners announced for U.S. Cellular Connection Stage

Summerfest Tuesday announced the 2011 headlining acts for the U.S. Cellular Connection Stage.

They are:

Wednesday, June 29 – Jack's Mannequin

Thursday, June 30 – Panic! at the Disco (with Neon Trees)

Friday, July 1 – Anberlin

Saturday, July 2 - The Airborne Toxic Event

Sunday, July 3 – TBA

Tuesday, July 5 – Switchfoot (with Young the Giant)

Wednesday, July 6 – Tonic

Thursday, July 7 – Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros

Friday, July 8 – Crash Kings (with Middle Class Rut)

Saturday, July 9 – Alkaline Trio (with Meat Puppets)

Sunday, July 19 – The Bravery (with Awoination)

Headliner acts for the Harley-Davidson Roadhouse will be announced Thursday at 6 p.m. during an event at the Harley-Davidson Museum, 400 W. Canal St. Anyone who attends a release party receives a free ticket to Summerfest's opening day.

Tonic's Aubrey Jensen

Aubrey Jensen hasn`t been bartending for that long, but she knows what she likes. She makes a good Old Fashioned (because she likes them) and doesn`t mind making a Bloody Mary (also because she likes them). The bartender at Tonic Tavern, 2335 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., comes from Appleton but does her drinking in her current neighborhood, Bay View.

Switchfoot's new path

The stress of leaving a major record label can be crushing for many bands and artists. Others decide that the ride isn`t over quite yet, and that pushing on is really the only option. Rock band Switchfoot is one of those latter bands, deciding their run wasn`t quite over after they severed ties with Columbia Records. Instead of calling it a career, they took it upon themselves to go indie once again.

Five questions for Dawes

It`s been just two years since Cali roots rockers Dawes released "North Hills" on Dave Matthews` ATO Records. In that time, the band has worked with legends like Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm and Jackson Browne, who guests on Dawes` sophomore effort, "Nothing Is Wrong." Dawes plays Turner Hall Saturday, Nov. 5 with Blitzen Trapper and we got a chance to hit keyboardist Tay Strathairn with some questions, who responded from the road.

Having a piano as the center of attention can be tricky for live shows, but Jack`s Mannequin front man Andrew McMahon kept the mood high and the music moving with ease for their opening night headlining set at the U.S. Cellular Connection Stage. The fans came to see McMahon slamming on the piano, and that`s just what they got.
