African World Festival will not take place this year, despite earlier reports that the festival would return after a one-year hiatus with a new focus on community talent and resources.
African Fest was scheduled for Aug. 1 at the Henry Maier Festival Park. The festival's board of directors stated the festival will return in 2010.
Reports say that the festival organizers will hold a number of smaller events around the city this summer in place of the Lakefront festival.

Yeah, let's cool it on the "racist" theme. Really been used way to often and for foolish things.

That's right, Supa, race is not a factor...$$ and time is. The first weekend of August was also supposed to feature Summer Sizzle in the Third Ward, and I believe that was cancelled, too - so we've gone from two good events that weekend to none. 2009's going to be an off year for many festivals and events. People can use that weekend to relax or something...seems like some really need that.

Racist? I thought it was for lack of funding. The Great Circus Parade was down for years too. Was that racist?? Find another excuse..that one is getting old today.

What a shame. I was looking forward to their return this year. SupaStar, as laurend said, this has nothing to do with race. Putting on one of these festivals is a HUGE financial commitment and requires a lot of time and a lot of help from volunteers. Run into problems with any one of those things and it's likely the festival won't take place. I look forward to the festival's return in 2010. I've always had a very good time there (and stuffed myself silly on all the great food!).

There is nothing racist about it. The festival is cancelled due to lack of funding. It is all about the color green ,my friend or the unfortunate lack there oi in this case. I look forward to the festivals return in 2010.
