Summerfest sends a shout out to Milwaukee's blues rock fans by booking The Black Keys.

The Black Keys play Summerfest

In news that every rock and roll fan in Milwaukee can celebrate, The Black Keys headline Summerfest with a Marcus Amphitheater gig on Wednesday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m.

Florence and The Machine and Cage The Elephant open the show.

Tickets go on sale Saturday, March 5 at noon and include Summerfest admission. Tickets can be purchased at the Marcus Amphitheater box office, online and by phone from Ticketmaster and at Walmart.

Tickets are priced at $17.50 and $30, but when you add the fees, which are $23 and change, the actual costs are $40.80 and $53.60.

Remember that while the south end of the grounds is under construction, the Marcus box office is temporarily located at the Mid-Gate, at the end of Chicago Street.

Although garage blues rock duo The Black Keys is best known for its 2010 disc "Brothers," which nabbed three awards at the Grammys earlier this month, many long-time fans can remember seeing the band in Milwaukee at venues like The Mad Planet and Turner Hall.

The more accessible sound of "Brothers" has built a wider audience for The Black Keys but I hope the band can fill the Marcus.

If you ask me, this is one of the most exciting main stage announcements Summerfest has made in a long time. Kudos to Bob Babisch and his crew.

anyone who does not know this band, get to know them NOW!! while they have had recent success with their current album, they do have 5 previous that upon listening to, in my opinion, will open some eyes as to what great roots rocknroll music is all about. i can't wait!

A rock and roll act that is currently relevant? Wow, well done! I'm sure the remaining evenings will be filled in by Tom Petty and the Moody Blues.
