Break into the Big Gig wrapping up this week

Longtime music scenester Todd Ciske wrote in to tell us that his band Favorite Shape Triangle (FST) – stay tuned for our story on the band's latest CD – has reached the final round of the Break into the Big Gig battle of the bands at the Up and Under Pub.

Another round of the contest is currently underway at the BBC and both venues hosted an initial round of battles last month.

"We're up against some really stiff (metal) competition, so we'll need all the votes we can possibly muster," writes Commander Todd. "It's going to be close, but with your help, we can land a gig at Summerfest. We're all super stoked!"

The finals are Friday at the Up & Under Pub on Brady Street at 9:30 p.m. and also include Conniption and The Imperial. The winning band gets a slot to perform at Summerfest.

Admission is $5 and the audience votes for the winner until about 1:30 a.m.

Because they've apparently been paying attention to local recall elections, FST is also willing to lure you into the game.

"If you've got something else going on this Friday night, and can't make it to the show, at least stop by and cast a vote for us – and we'll buy you a drink," promises Ciske.

Meanwhile, organizer Roy Henning says that the BBC finals is Saturday, May 14 and features Beaker, 215 and Undercover Organism.
