Kings Go Forth march into Summerfest with a lot on the horizon
Milwaukee's own soul regents Kings Go Forth play Summerfest's Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard tomorrow night at 8 and there's a lot of anticipation among local music fans.
That's because the band has been busier than ever touring the world since the release last year of its Luaka Bop debut, "The Outsiders Are Back."
I caught up with bassist and mastermind Andy Noble to get an update.
"The band's been doing well," he told me via e-mail today, "writing and hopefully we'll record our second LP this fall in between another Europe trip and a stint out west."
In late September the band heads out to play Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and four nights in what Noble calls, "a boutique-y Vegas hotel."
The following month, the Kings go forth to Europe again, this time focusing on Belgium, France and Switzerland, where Noble says sales and airplay have been really good.
Otherwise, the band members have been focusing on their lives at home – and at least one new baby, for organist David Wake – and, says Noble...
"As I said trying to record a follow-up in between. We have just begun writing on. Trying to go a little more spacious on the next effort, employing lusher instrumentation such as strings, vibes, etc., in addition to more pronounced psychedelic guitar/keys.
"Been very influenced by the more outsider gospel sounds lately, not so much for the Christian messages, but more for the philosophical aspects of the lyrics and the emotional intensity."
