Social Circle: "Have you stacked beer cups at Summerfest?"

Welcome to a new weekly segment called "Social Circle." It's OnMilwaukee.com's first article that's truly a group effort between readers, social networkers and the OnMilwaukee.com editors.

Every Monday, we will ask a question via Facebook and Twitter and then post the responses from our Facebook "likers" and Twitter followers in the Thursday column. Well-known Milwaukee movers-and-shakers will contribute, too.

For decades, party-hardy Summerfest-goers stacked their empty beer cups, keeping the full one on top, to show off the number of brews they've already consumed. The stacking of empty cups at Summerfest is as much a part of the Big Gig's culture as Venice Club's fried eggplant or that ubiquitous Ecuadorian band or fearing getting spit on when walking beneath the Sky Glider.

This week, we asked our Twitter followers and Facebook likers to admit if they've been a stacker of the cups and, if so, how many they've stacked. Here are their responses and feel free to add you own via the Talkback feature.

John Adler: "Um, no."

Elaine Alred: "10."

Amy Jo Arden: "I had an eight stack once in college. I'm guessing on the eight. It might have been nine. Or 10."

Joshua Bentley: "I have seen people do that but I think they look like losers."

Mike Brenner: "No, but when I was 17 a security guard caught my buddy and I smoking weed in a Port-A-John and 'confiscated' it. Now I just sneak in a flask. Drinking Miller Lite would give me diarrhea."

Geoff Kamps: "Yeah, done that. But maybe only two or three at the most. It beats littering."

Dave Mikolajak: "I use the Waterford crystal glassware they serve my vodka tonics in behind the scenes my friend."

Nathan Kind Schaefer: "Two!"

Liz Sharp: "I stack the empty wine cooler cups. At least 10."

Melody Zayner: "I have stacked quite a few cups over the past 15 years of going to Summerfest 4 or 5 nights. I am guessing the most was 5 but maybe I just can't remember the rest after that. LOL."

The people who stack cups are usually the drunks that ruin the fun for most of us who feel they can have fun without getting hammered. I sure hope they don't leave the Summerfest grounds and try to drive home. Have a couple beers...some good, greasy food, listen to some great music and chill.
