Social Circle: "Are cream puffs delicious or overrated?"
Welcome to a weekly segment called "Social Circle." It's OnMilwaukee.com's first article that's truly a group effort between readers, social networkers and the OnMilwaukee.com editors.
Every Monday, we will ask a question via Facebook and Twitter and then post the responses from our Facebook "likers" and Twitter followers in the Thursday column. Well-known Milwaukee movers-and-shakers will contribute, too.
The Wisconsin State Fair starts today, and in its honor, this week's Social Circle question revolves around the cream puff, the fair's most famous food – and it's not even on a stick.
According to the received responses, people have very strong opinions about this dairy-iffic dessert items, all of which you can read below. And feel free to add your own thoughts on the cream puff via the Talkback feature.
See you at the fair, Milwaukee.
Robin Barry: "Delicious!"
Kory Beavers: "I think the big deal is made mostly for the tradition of it. Myself, I could take one or leave it. Depends if I'm with someone who wants to stand in line."
Laury Corrao: "Waaaay overrated!"
Shaun Cross: "I never understood the hype over these things. Obviously it's a matter of opinion / preference, but I think they're nasty."
Jennifer Rollings Kresse: "Delish."
Russ Fascia: "They are good at the fair because they use real cream."
Anthony Garrison: "I'm surprised nobody has tried deep frying them. They might be good then."
Jennifer Goldberg Krouse: "Overrated."
Alissa Gonyea: "Never had one. My ADD wont allow me to stand in that gigantic line. I'll walk over and grab a brewski instead. :)"
Candice Ann Hackbarth: "The best."
Sarah Jean: "I give 'em credit for being REAL cream and not just sugary fluff some joints pull off."
Holly Jefferson: "They are delicious. Overrated? No. If you like REAL WHIPPED CREAM, the traditional NOT TOO SWEET WAY. These are superb. And the puff part is flaky and not greasy. I love them. Even the money for what you get doesn't seem so bad. There is a lot of cream on them. Can you tell I like them?"
Chad Johnson: "Overrated and over-hyped by the media."
Matt Krueger: "They can be both. They are delicious, but they remind me of gluttony. People are so weird about them. Rather than overrated, it's more of overreaction. Sadly, every analogy I think of either involves crack addicts or farm animals at feeding time. (I'll be in hell now if you need me)."
Marlene Manske: "Traditional."
Laura Nitsch: "Absolutely overrated. The memories of standing in line with Grandpa is what brings people back. And people want to make that same memory for their child / grandchild."
Sally Nordstrom: "Overrated."
Jenn Pattow: "Overrated!"
Michael Pettit: "Both."
Kara Prach: "Overrated!"
Sally Pyasta: "Delish."
David Reichert: "Real cream makes them yummy!"
Marla Schmidt: "Definitely overrated."
Jason Starck: "I love them and think they're a wonderful tradition! If you don't like them or think they're overrated, perhaps you would be better off standing in line for deep-fried butter."
Eric Steele: "Overrated."
Velia Tarnoff: "Both."
Monica Thompson: "Underrated eclairs."
Simon Teale: "Waaaay overrated! Might as well shove a can of whipped cream in your pie hole!"
Kathy Xiong: "Overrated, but a fun thing to do."
Martin Zain: "Mmmm mmmm good."

Not bad if you get to the fair early, get a cup of coffee and put some cream from the puff in it.
